aside from all the bad news RS has raised the upload limit per account to 20TB.

Are you serious? I thought they just changed it into 20gb?

if you read that like i did the first time i was pleased but unfortunately thats just the maximum total size your account. if your account is over 25gb stuff will still get deleted after 60 days with no download.

a 20Tb limit in that respect would be the holy bloody grail!

50GB is the space limit for an RS account now to have the files stay permanently (no 90 or from January on 60 days). This is only true for premium accounts.

100 GB is the maximum space for a collector's account. Collector accounts generate points and can be turned into premium accounts. Files stay 90 days without a download (60 days from January on).

the maximum space for a premium account has changed from 500GB to 20TB. I have not tried that out yet.

you're welcome, boon! how is that migration site? working good?

also, to report on plowshare... it didn't work all that great - didn't upload a single file all night - but will await final judgement until i've played with it more.

for now, i am playing with a new script - megaupload-dl and this is working good, although S...L...O.......W
http://code.google.com/p/megaupload-dl/

will compare with rapidshare's tried and true upload script for comparisons later

(also, in both i am an unpaid user)

that migraton site is working great. For me as a premium user on both sites it working really well. I am saving all the ones that would expire on RS to MU. There will be more soon and it's working great. I am using the RS happy hours most of the time, because it is a true mass of fanedits that cannot keep up with the 60 days limitation coming in January on RS.

Why i like uploading myself at rapidshare is that I can see the number of download.
If someone else, like Boon, upload my fanedits at megaupload, is there a way for me to see that number?

you can of course only see numbers on your own accounts.
The numbers on MU are not accurate anyway.
But I can offer to transfer RS files to my MU account, if anyone is afraid his files may get lost.

i finally logged into my RS collectors account after a few months of the account info being "lost" and was pleasantly surprised that most of those uploads are still there!

...testing out MU for now... we'll see. so far i like the export links feature on the free accounts, but the folders/management in MU is stupid.

I kinda like the folder management at MU.
Though it works better at the website than using Mega Manager.

Also remember that MU only gives reward points for files 100MB and under.

I tried using the Mega Manager yesterday and it sucks. It says that it's two to six times faster than uploading from the site itself and I don't know for anybody else but for me it was a lot slower. A 100 MB's takes me about 20-25 minutes to upload through the website but through Mega Manager it would have taken over an hour had I not cancelled it. I seem to recall it being much faster last time I had it installed on my computer, although that was a few years ago.

RapidShare.de is shutting down in March. Suppose there's little point in keeping two websites of identical function running.

a nice offer for those who do not have a RS premium account, but want one:
I am offering a free one month premium account to anyone who writes from now on 3 detailed reviews for fanedits on fanedit.org and rates at least 5 fanedits.
This is not for just one person, but for anyone who is interested in contributing and receive a nice reward for that. :)
I will keep you informed when this offer expires.

pm me your fanedit.org username, if you are interested.

edit: first rate and review, THEN pm me.

it seems my offer was a but unclear. It is a "deliver first, receive then" offer. You first have to rate 5 fanedits and write 3 detailed reviews. THEN you can pm me and ask for a free 1 month RS premium account. I am not just handing out accounts in good faith. :)

The end of RS being useful?

Big changes:

http://rapidshare.com/news.html

Reward programme: RapidPoints and RapidDonations to be discontinued

June 18, 2010
As of July 1, 2010 RapidShare's RapidPoints programme will be discontinued.
This decision by the company is a reaction to claims that the reward programme rewards the uploading of contents that are protected by copyright. We feel it is necessary to undertake this step as we do not wish RapidShare's users to be exposed to such an unjustified general suspicion. Our primary objective remains to provide users with a fast, secure and reliable service.

What will the changes mean for our users?
First, nobody will lose any points that have already been accumulated. You can redeem them until July 6, 2010. Please also note that within the next days we will offer you an opportunity to convert a Collector's account into a free Premium account and to transfer your points into this Premium account. Unfortunately, we must also give up the RapidDonation scheme. An amount of 10,000 Euros was collected for each and every organisation and project that was introduced. We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the donors for their contributions! We are currently exploring how we can continue the donation programme in the future. Clearly, we would like to continue rewarding customers who recruit new clients. As soon as we have developed a new reward programme, we will of course contact you immediately to provide more details.

If files are still being downloaded from a collector account, they wouldn't be deleted, right?

It doesn't look like its going to a pay service exclusively, nor are they removing any files. At least that's how I read it. It looks like the only thing the're doing is getting rid of the awards program. Nothing more.

Or am I reading something wrong?

If they remove the points...then you will have to pay for download bandwidth.

You've always been able to download through RS for free but with slower speeds.

Oh right.

I remember when I had paid for RS... Some fanedits downloaded real fast and then I was at the same speed as a free user unless I paid for more traffic...

meh

I think the $200 lifetime deal at MU includes everything without gb or bandwidth limits.

I believe boon was able to transfer files directly from RS to MU.
