SO yeah....Sony was a little upset that I was downloading an iPod version of Casino Royale (even though I own the original). I don't know, but I think I'm gonna hold off for a while releasing or downloading any fanedits. The last thing I need is more trouble, and the last thing I want is for you guys to get shut down. So...yeah....

Yeah, I'm not scared or anything. I deleted the offending file in question. However, it said that I downloaded the file from Demonoid, and I've downloaded...some other stuff from there as well. Don't owrry, I'm not going anywhere ;)

Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere. I do actually have somewhat valid arguements for some stuff (though weak, they'll never hold up in court :P)

Seriously, I think it's something similar to what Viacom was doing with YouTube, so I'm not worried.

I got one form mine yesterday morning for BSG e18. All I know is what this e-mail below says. Beyond that I have no idea what else if anything is going to happen. I sent an e-mail back to them stating the file was deleted a few days prior to the e-mail, which, I had. I'll stay away from the torrens, but I think the RS will be ok..

Sorry to hear about this tek. I live in Mass. too if you want to send me your edit i will get it out to people. Was in comcast that sent you the letter? When downloading there is alot of security precautions you need to take. Stuff like making sure you have a firewall and i also use peerguardian to block any known ant-p2p groups.

Yeah, that's pretty much identical to the one I got. I was hesitant about Peer Guardian, so I suppose it couldn't hurt. Proxies are another option, but I'd have to look into it.

And thanks for the offer, Nex ;)

EDIT: Yep, the e-mail is almost identical, the only difference being the "offending" file.

I don't use torrents anymore, it's not worth the potential aggravation. I like retail copies of things because the prints are all professional as well as the quality. I know taking images from the net and combining them into a cover is considered "shady" too so who knows what the future holds. We all have other similar interests so I don't think it'll break our community.

I use Peer Guardian and haven't had any problems since I got a weird pop up last year. E Mail is to scare you. If they were serious you'd get a certified letter. I wouldn't worry. Pretty soon the government will have control of the Net and shut down torrent sites.

Obviously i don't condone piracy but I am also a security nut. I agree with Johnny usually e-mail is just a scare tactic. Next comes the certified letter. And if you are a extreme abuser of the system comcast will physically come to your house and cut the cable connection going to your house (i had a buddy running a suprnova mirror back in the day and was using 100gb of bandwidth a day). To protect your privacy and security on the internet there is some stuff you need to make sure you have. Usually i will make sure I have a hardware and software firewall. Most routers have a hardware firewall built in these days. For software zone alarm makes the best imo. Also I make sure to run peerguardian because it will block any ip address that comes from any company that works with the riaa/mpaa. Like i said before i don't condone piracy but i believe in our right to do what we want on the internet and not be watched over by some all powerful being.

Personally I think it's all a lot of veiled threats.

Everyone heard about kids getting sued a few years ago, but the outcomes were never in the news. I VERY much anyone is sitting in a Federal/Provincial prison because they downloaded Casino Royale.

Is anyone in there for bootlegging and selling copyrighted motion pictures? Probably - but I would have to be pretty damn big time to get the least bit scared.

You could always try one of those Peer Gaurdian thingies - I don't know if they work or not.

You never know, though. They might decide to make examples of people who are doing 'light' piracy. I mean it's still illegal, even to download TV shows.

it's funny usually with all these piracy cases it always the person who downloaded 1 or 2 movies that gets caught the people who are moving terabytes upon terabytes of stuff never get caught

Hmm... can't download a tv show because said tv show will be released on dvd. Meanwhile since you pay for cable, you're allowed a pvr which records said program and puts it on a hard drive. What if you pay for cable but have it hooked up to your computer? You're still downloading onto a hard drive.

Yeah, that would hold up... :? :-? :???:

I still think it's not even technically legal to record a TV show from cable (in the US, at least), it's just not something they would ever care about as long as you're not distributing it.

Well, Beck, if it wasn't legal, then VCRs wouldn't be able to do it, would they?
